Epitiro Logo Based in Cardiff, UK and established in 2000, the company benchmarks IP network performance by measuring the end-to-end performance experienced by the customer.

Launched their femtocell testing suite in July 2008, which focuses on three specific areas:

  • FemtoLab targets operators and vendors who want to simulate customer traffic scenarios and measure the actual performance in their labs. For example, this could include analysing the quality of voice calls when downloading or streaming video programs on a shared broadband link.
  • FemtoLite measures the performance on a customer’s existing broadband line over a period of weeks, to determine if it is suitable for femtocell service. It is suggested that this is more appropriate where the mobile operator does not have full control (i.e. does not own or provide the broadband line themselves). We’re not convinced that customers will want to wait for the testing period of 2-3 weeks to find out if they can get the femtocell service.
  • ISP-I reuses the existing Epitiro service measurement products to provide longer term performance analysis of the network. This appears to be similar to mobile operators “drive testing” measurements, adapted to the femtocell service. The reports would show the end-user quality of service (or as now called – quality of experience). For example, this would highlight the impact of any changes to the broadband ISP network configuration.
