Rhode and Schwarz Femtocell Testing Rohde & Schwarz is an independent group of companies specializing in radio communications. They are a leading supplier of solutions in the fields of test and measurement, broadcasting, secure communications, radiomonitoring and radiolocation.

Originally established in a small laboratory in 1933 by Dr Rohde and Dr Schwarz, the company has grown to have a global presence and dedicated service network in over 70 countries. It has over 7000 employees and achieved a net revenue of 1.4 billion (US$ 1.9 billion) in fiscal year 2006/2007 (July 2006 to June 2007). Company headquarters are in Munich, Germany.

Rohde & Schwarz are widely used by equipment vendors, test laboratories and operators to measure the radio performance and characteristics of both mobile devices, chipsets and basestations. They are very active contributors to the 3GPP standards groups, especially where test specifications and procedures are defined.

Their equipment is the top choice within certification laboratories for RF signal testing - their product range includes dedicated versions for all the common formats including GSM, CDMA, UMTS, HSPA, LTE and WiMAX.

Several femtocell chipset and equipment manufacturers use their products in the R&D labs. Operators also use this type of equipment in their own lab.

For example, the SMU200A signal generator is capable of simulating both 2G and 3G signals simultaneously. It is used in several R&D labs to simulate complex scenarios including MIMO real-time signal fading.
