GENBAND has grown from its formation in 1999 to a $150M turnover company, becoming the number 1 supplier of telecom gateway products worldwide. With over 800 customers (of which almost half buy something every year), they are an integral part of many mobile and fixed telephone networks. That’s impressive considering they weren’t making any revenue until 2004! They’ve grown rapidly through acquisitions of companies such as Nextpoint (which itself was a merger of Reefpoint and NexTone).

Headquartered in Plano, Texas, GENBAND is owned by some of the world’s leading venture capital firms, and today operates research and development facilities in Texas, Massachusetts, and China.

Their major product lines are:

  • G series, headed by its G9 media gateway, which combines signalling gateway and media gateway functions and a highly scalable switch fabric that handles both IP (packet switched) and TDM (circuit switched) interfaces.
  • S series, which includes both session border controllers (SBC) and security gateways.

The company is well positioned to assist the migration of both fixed and mobile networks across to all-IP architectures, such as IMS, SIP and LTE.

Their gateways are commonly used as the IP Security Gateway module within the femtocell gateway, and are claimed to be present in around 65% of femtocell deployments to date worldwide. Their products can support all 3G and 4G femtocell variants, including UMTS, CDMA, LTE and IMS.
