acmepacket_logo.gif A leading supplier of IP session border controllers, security gateways and products to the internet and telecommunications industry. Their products are commonly used to protect networks from attacks at the application layer (e.g. SIP signalling DoS attacks) and provide control (e.g. quality, interoperability fixups and load balancing).

Their session border controllers provide the Security Gateway function incorporated into Femto Gateways to terminate large numbers (100,000s) of IPsec tunnels, protecting the network operator from attack and femtocell calls from interception.

Their "Net-Net" multiservice security gateways scale up to handle 1,000,000 concurrent IPsec tunnels in a single box. Although very small scale trials don't need this kind of capacity, mass deployment is expected to require interconnect capacity of 100,000 to 300,000 - operators tend to avoid creating single points of failure in their network above that size - and the actual capacity provided is unlocked using software licences.

Acme Packet joined the Femto Forum in 2008 and contributes to the technical standards regarding security for Iu-h.

Additionally Acme Packet’s session border controller can be used for SIP based femtocell architecture which also require Deep Packet Inspection techniques to protect against abuse of SIP signalling messages.

Founded in 2000 and now a public quoted company (NASDAQ:APKT), Acme Packet employs 350 staff and has over 500 customers, including over 80 large service providers and around 50 pure mobile operators. Their products are used to protect IP interconnect between operators including handoff of VoIP calls between VoIP networks. In addition to a direct sales force, their products are resold via channel partners such as Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia-Siemens.
